False detection in Windows Defender (32-bit Word)
Applies to ClaimMaster installations for 32-bit Word on computers using Windows Defender as the primary anti-virus software.
After a recent definitions update, Windows Defender incorrectly flagged and disabled the installed ClaimMaster template for 32-bit Word. We've submitted our template to Microsoft for analysis and it was removed from their database in the latest update, so you'll need to update Windows Defender to the latest definitions version (e.g., 1.387.684.0 or later) to avoid incorrect detection.
As a result of the false detection, Windows Defender removed all macro code from the ClaimMaster.dotm template located in the Word Startup folder, which causes the "macro cannot be found" error message when Word documents are open or any ClaimMaster is launched.
Notably, the size of the "cleaned" template is reduced from about 4,000 Kbytes to 240 Kbytes after all code is removed.
1) Update Windows Defender to the latest definitions
2) Restore ClaimMaster template. To do that, you can simply reinstall ClaimMaster. Alternatively, copy the original ClaimMaster.dotm template back to the Startup folder, overwriting the "cleaned" or "guaranteed" template, which no longer works. This will re-enable ClaimMaster operation. You can copy C:\Program Files (x86)\ClaimMaster\ClaimMaster.dotm to C:\Users\[End-Username]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Word\Startup\, overwriting the existing ClaimMaster.dotm template in there. Hopefully the original ClaimMaster.dotm template in C:\Program Files (x86)\ClaimMaster folder wasn't quarantined by Windows Defender - the original size should be about around 3500-4100 Kbytes, not 240 Kbytes. However, if both files were affected, you'll need to reinstall.
